Cannabigerolic acid monomethyl ether, or CBGAM, is a non-psychoactive compound found in hemp/cannabis plants. It is part of the CBG (cannabigerol) class. CBG is the “mother of all cannabinoids” because it is the precursor to many other phytocannabinoids. While there is no accurate record of when CBGAM was discovered, we know it is derived from CBGA, which was discovered in 1964.
Because the study of CBGAM is still in the initial phases, there has been little research into the potential therapeutic benefits of this compound. However, as it is part of the CBG class, we can assume that it may have similar mechanisms of action and interaction with the endocannabinoid system.
While most of the studies of CBG have been conducted on animals, there is good potential for the therapeutic possibilities to also apply to humans. CBG shows promising results as a useful treatment for glaucoma and potent anti-inflammatory within the gastrointestinal tract. Given that CBGAM is in the CBG class, it is theorized that it may also benefit the body in these ways. More research is needed to explore the therapeutic possibilities of this cannabinoid fully.
